City of Fort Saskatchewan Municipal Policing / RCMP New Detachment

Fort Saskatchewan, Alberta

The City of Fort Saskatchewan Municipal Policing/RCMP Detachment was developed to accommodate the region’s growth, replacing the existing facility. Designed for a C4+20 occupancy, the building includes a 7-cell detention area, public support zones, administrative offices, police functions, staff spaces, and a multipurpose/community room. The site features parking, vehicle and pedestrian access, and landscaping. A clerestory along the main corridor provides natural lighting to interior spaces, and additional storage space in the basement allows for future expansion over the next 20 years. As well, the rotunda showcases imagery reflecting the City’s historical ties to the RCMP.

The building design incorporated Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles, accommodating both municipal and federal functions. It adhered to the National Building Code 2010 and Alberta Building Code 2006 to meet RCMP criteria. The detachment utilizes sustainable materials and design strategies in line with the Fort Saskatchewan Community Sustainability Plan, achieving LEED® Silver equivalency.
