Over the years, Canmore has experienced an increase in population and tourism. Many of these locals and tourists enjoy mountain adventures like skiing and mountain biking, which unfortunately increases the number of injuries that occur. This increase in usage has necessitated a major renovation to the existing Emergency Department at Canmore General Hospital. The scope of the renovations includes increased patient capacity by providing four additional rapid assessment spaces, a larger waiting area, and barrier-free washrooms for patients. The new triage and registration location will be more accessible and approachable. The design also features a new nurse station that will provide better workflows and site lines to patients and will support communication between care staff. There will also be a treatment room dedicated for patients experiencing poor mental health. The modernized interior design improves the experience that patients and staff will have within the emergency department.
