The primary goals of the project were to improve the patient and family experience, increase clinical capacity, and create a flexible environment capable of supporting future growth. Through extensive engagement with physicians, nurses, therapists, diagnostic imaging staff, operational leaders, patient-family advisors, and Child Life representatives, the design evolved to support clinical workflows, accessibility, patient flow, rehabilitation programming, interdisciplinary collaboration, and a more engaging pediatric experience. 

A key project outcome was the expansion of clinical capacity, increasing from 14 exam rooms to approximately 20 exam and procedure rooms while introducing dedicated casting facilities and integrated rehabilitation services. The design also focused on creating an environment that balances engagement with sensory sensitivity, incorporating custom graphics, interactive play elements, Edmonton-inspired wayfinding, family-friendly waiting spaces, and calming finishes tailored to patients of varying ages and abilities.

The completed facility provides a modern, flexible setting for pediatric care, supporting collaboration among care teams while creating a more welcoming experience for patients and their families.
