Soraya Hafez New K-6 School
Edmonton, AlbertaThe Soraya Hafez School marks Edmonton Public Schools' first development in the McConachie neighbourhood, accommodating 650 students. The exterior design is simple yet visually engaging, using vibrant coloured metal panels to add character while complementing the surrounding community’s development. As an elementary school, the interior design prioritizes scale to create a welcoming environment that fosters play and exploration. Warm, inviting materials were chosen to support both comfortable learning and playful spaces.
The Soraya Hafez K-6 School was part of a package of two schools delivered through an Integrated Project Delivery (IPD) method. This approach brought together architects, engineers, owners, contractors, and subtrades to collaboratively design and construct the facilities. The combination of the IPD method and a focus on 21st-century learning principles enabled an efficient, well-coordinated design process for both the Soraya Hafez Elementary and Thelma Chalifoux Junior High schools.
