Grand Trunk K-12 School Modernization
Evansburg, ABThe Grand Trunk K-12 School Modernization transformed an existing secondary school into a contemporary 5,712 m² learning environment serving 500 students from Kindergarten through Grade 12. Through the adaptive reuse and modernization of the facility, the project consolidated the Evansview Elementary and Wildwood school communities within a single campus for Grande Yellowhead Public School Division, creating a cohesive educational environment that supports students throughout their school years.
The project included extensive interior reconfiguration, accessibility upgrades, replacement of mechanical and electrical systems, energy performance improvements, and the modernization of learning environments throughout the school. A key feature of the project is the new 565 m² gymnasium addition, designed to connect to the existing gymnasium and provide flexible spaces for physical education, recreation, and community programming. The addition also includes fitness, change room, washroom, storage, and support spaces, along with a dedicated after-hours entrance that enhances community access to the facility.

Working closely with Grande Yellowhead Public School Division, school administration, and user groups, ACI developed a K-12 environment that responds to the needs of students, staff, and the broader community. Students were engaged throughout the design process through presentations, planning exercises, and site walkthroughs, providing opportunities to learn about architecture and contribute feedback on their future school.
