File Hills First Nations Community Safety Centre

Balcarres, Saskatchewan

The File Hills First Nations Community Safety Centre, constructed in the Okanese First Nation, proudly supports the Indigenous police force and their dedication to providing a safe and secure environment for the communities they serve. These communities extend out across five First Nations northeast of Regina and include Okanese, Peepeekisis, Carry the Kettle, Star Blanket, and Little Black Bear.

For the design of this project, ACI drew inspiration from the community, reflecting a deep connection to nature. The building's architectural form echoes the sweeping wingspan of a bird in flight, while its exterior is adorned with warm, golden hues reminiscent of a sunset. With proven expertise in protective services buildings, we also prioritized security design and detailing to align with rigorous law enforcement facility standards. Both exemplify our commitment to a space that not only meets functional requirements, but also embodies a spirit of unity, resilience, and cultural pride.

The Community Safety Centre is comprised of a single-storey main building covering a footprint of approximately 900 square metres. This greenfield site is located north of Highway 10 in the Okanese First Nation. Proximity to the community’s Health Centre directly to the south played an important role in site selection. With an internal roadway connection between the two buildings, synergies on emergency services resources can be realized through thoughtfully planned infrastructure. ACI conducted rigorous evaluation of materials to ensure the essential criteria of affordability, durability, and aesthetic appeal were met, supporting our commitment to delivering enduring quality.
