AMA New K-6 Islamic School

Edmonton, Alberta

ACI is proud to serve as Prime Consultant for the Arabian Muslim Association’s new K–6 Islamic elementary school in Edmonton’s Baranow neighbourhood. Designed to accommodate 1,650 students and 200 staff, this transformative project will serve as a vital educational and cultural hub for the city’s growing Muslim community.

The design process was rooted in meaningful engagement with the AMA to ensure the school’s mission and vision aligned with Islamic values and educational aspirations. The facility includes dedicated prayer spaces, gender-segregated areas, and culturally significant design elements that reflect Islamic identity and tradition.

The school also embraces 21st Century Learning principles, offering flexible classrooms, collaborative open spaces, and abundant natural light to support modern teaching and learning. A key architectural feature is the minaret —symbolizing the connection between the earthly and the divine— thoughtfully integrated to honor Islamic heritage.

Traditional geometric patterns, calligraphy, and carefully selected materials further reinforce the school’s cultural identity. More than an educational facility, the new AMA school will be a beacon of learning, spirituality, and community for generations to come.
