Robbins Health Learning Centre Restack
Edmonton, AlbertaThe Robbins Health Learning Centre Restack reimagines academic space within one of MacEwan University’s core teaching facilities to better support health and community-focused programs. Spanning approximately 1,627 m² across three levels, the project reorganizes existing interiors to respond to changing pedagogical models, increased enrolment, and evolving workplace needs, without expanding the building footprint.
The restack introduces upgraded classrooms and shared instructional areas, including a purpose-built nursing teaching classroom with integrated headwall infrastructure and support spaces tailored to hands-on learning. Faculty offices and open workstations were reconfigured to promote collaboration, efficiency, and flexible use, while new staff amenity areas improve day-to-day functionality. An existing locker zone was transformed into gender-neutral, barrier-free washrooms, reinforcing inclusive access throughout the facility.

Design decisions were shaped by the realities of an established academic building. New mechanical, electrical, AV, and data systems were strategically integrated within limited ceiling and structural zones, balancing performance upgrades with existing conditions. Institutional standards and current codes informed the design, creating consistency across renovated spaces while improving clarity and legibility within the building.
Delivered within an active learning environment, the project prioritizes intuitive circulation and clear adjacencies between teaching, work, and support spaces. The completed Robbins Health Learning Centre Restack provides contemporary, adaptable environments that strengthen instructional delivery and extend the functional value of an essential campus facility.
